The game was first released on 10 June 2010 in Japan and later localized and released on 19 August 2011 in Europe. It was later renamed Xenoblade in January 2010 to honor Tetsuya Takahashi, the director of the game and all prior games in the Xeno series. The game was announced during E3 2009 under its original title Monado: Beginning of the World.
